Dr. Arle Lommel

At CSA Research, Arle Lommel focuses on language technology, artificial intelligence, translation quality, and overall economic factors impacting globalization. In his work as a senior analyst, he emphasizes the combination of human and machine factors and the ways in which technology is changing the role of language workers. Arle has worked in the localization industry since 1997. Before his role as an analyst, he was a senior consultant at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), where he helped lead machine translation and language technology-oriented projects, particularly those focusing on the integration of human and machine translation. Prior to DFKI, he headed up standards development at the Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) and later at the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA). Arle has a doctorate and a master’s from Indiana University Bloomington, where he studied Central European ethnography. He earned his bachelor’s in linguistics from Brigham Young University. Currently based in Bloomington, Indiana, Arle has lived and worked in the United States (Alaska, Utah, and Indiana), Hungary, and Germany. He is fluent in English and Hungarian and is proficient in German, with knowledge of several other languages.
