Event details

Mismatches in expectation between buyers and sellers of language services are a frequent source of quality problems and dissatisfaction. Many industries address such challenges through the establishment of “grades,” standardized descriptions of the qualities and features a good or service must exhibit to meet requirements for particular use cases. For example, tools may come in “consumer” and “professional” grades that have very different feature sets, and agricultural products may be assigned to grades based on appearance or culinary properties.

In this session, our guest presenter, Alan Melby, and CSA Research senior analyst Dr. Arle Lommel, will discuss current efforts to establish translation grades that correspond to common use cases. A shared understanding of grades will help both language services buyers and LSPs discuss the best solutions for particular needs and help ensure that outcomes meet requirements.

Join the interactive webinar on “Translation Quality Grades.” The presentation will discuss the definition of the proposed grades, the use cases they correspond to, and how they relate to current language technology. It will then describe a proposal for labeling translations based on their method of production. It will also address how grades can help buyers improve their vendor selection and discussions with LSPs.
